Past Volunteer Initiatives
Using grant funding from ALLY Financial, Green Works and Clean Downtown have partnered with various community organizations to transform vacant lots - carrying out clean-ups, planting gardens & greenery, and creating usable space for communities. This is the corner of 3rd and Blaine BEFORE. We worked with ALLY Financial, DTE and Habitat for Humanity during this CommUNITY event in 2019
We pruned and cleaned up any overgrowth, removed all weeds on the inner portion of the fence line, and pulled all vines from around the fence line. We dug holes and planted 5 Golden Rain Trees and 25 Fragrant Viburnums
We used mulch provided by Oakland Avenue Urban Farms
This lot is at 2nd and Philadelphia. For this initiative we partnered with Central Detroit Christian
We prepped the ground and planted 105 Raspberry crowns, constructed a raspberry trellis system, and installed a weed barrier in the garden.
This site is in the Oakland Ave and Owen area. For this initiative we partnered with DTE, Motor City Grounds Crew and Mt. Moriah Church. Click through to see what the site looked like before we got there and after we left.

We cleaned all the litter found around these three vacant buildings. We took care of all the weeds and overgrowth by pulling, digging and utilizing weed whip. We trimmed back all the overgrowth. We also cleaned up the alleys. All in all, over 30 yards of trash were removed from the site.
This is Art Park at 9413 John R. It is currently “In progress”. We have partnered with DTE Energy, Rebound Detroit and Motor City Grounds Crew on this initiative.
When the project is completed this transformed lot will consist of: a new paver walk way, a gazebo, an art mural, and outdoor seating.
Two of the initial pieces built in the Wood Sustainability Program were these pallet benches for Art Park, providing some outdoor seating.
